Kevin Eldon

He's been the comedy bridesmaid for nearly 15 years now, but now - finally - Kevin Eldon is being put

centre-stage with his own BBC2 show.

It's Kevin is being produced by the production team behind the BAFTA-winning Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle and will feature sketches and songs, with guest spots from Eldon's "comedy friends."

The show, which will screen next year, was commissioned by BBC2 controller Janice Hadlow and Cheryl Taylor, controller of comedy commissioning. Taylor described 51-year-old Eldon as a "very special comedian indeed and we're delighted to have the opportunity to showcase his many talents on BBC2."

Though this is the first time he's been given his own telly show, there's barely a comedy programme from the past decade and a half which hasn't featured Eldon. His comedy credits range from Spaced, Big Train, Nighty Night, Nathan Barley, Green Wing, through to The IT Crowd.

"I have always liked chaffinches," he said about getting his own show. "The money I may receive from this show may well allow me buy more pictures of chaffinches."

A chaffinch is a small, passerine bird in the finch family Fringillidae.
